Take a look at what I've been up to this past month plus the places and people I've been visiting and meeting below...

Don't forget to keep re-visiting my blog to keep up-to-date with my year as Mayor and If you would like to donate to my charities go to: JustGiving Waverley Mayor.

Best wishes and thank you.

Talk Surrey AGM - 29 September

The Mayoress and I, along with mayors from other Surrey Boroughs, attended the AGM of TALK Surrey, an organisation helping people with Aphasia (a speech defect due to a brain trauma) to regain their ability to communicate. The AGM, followed by lunch, was well attended by trustees, Volunteers and Clients.

Mole Valley Civic Service - 25 September

The Mayoress and myself, along with Mayors from other Boroughs attended the Mole Valley CivicService at Christ Church Brockham...

Care Farnham AGM - 24 September

I attended this event held at the St Joan Church Hall. Care Farnham, along with many other Groups, was holding it first face-to-face meeting since the start of the pandemic and all the members were overjoyed to actually meet each other again. Care Farnham specialises in providing personal transport to doctor and hospital appointments and is still going strong! Although like all such groups, is in need of more volunteers. I congratulated them on their healthy balance sheet and their continuing ability to help fund other voluntary organisations.

Wessex Choir - 24 September

The Mayor & Mayoress attended this event held in the Spire Church, Farnham. The Mayor welcomed this distinguished Choir to the Borough and complimented them on attracting such a gathering when it clashed with Strictly Come Dancing! He stayed to enjoy listening to Zadok The Priest, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Parry’s I was Glad, whilst the Mayoress joined the choir for the performance.

Epsom & Ewell Civic Service - 21 September This service was attended by the deputy Mayor on my behalf...

Elmbridge Civic Day - 20 September The Mayor & Mayoress, along with the majority of other Surrey Mayors & Chairs attended the Elmbridge Civic Day. A well organised day with visits to Brooklands to see Concorde, Chelsea Football Club’s training ground (interesting even for an Arsenal supporter!) and Painshill Park. A useful and enjoyable networking experience.

Surrey Freemasons’ Service of Thanksgiving - 18 September

The Mayoress and I, accompanied by the Leader of Waverley Borough Council, Paul Follows, attended the Surrey Freemasons’ Service of Thanksgiving in Guildford Cathedral, at which the Mayor read one of the Lessons.

It was a well-supported but sombre service, attended by a number of Mayors from across Surrey with Masons and their families from throughout the County joining the congregation.

Proclamations - September 11 2022

Surrey Proclamation The Mayoress and myself attended this moving event at Guildford cathedral when the High Sherriff formally read the Accession Proclamation and handed copies to the Borough Mayors for them to read out in their Boroughs.

Waverley Proclamation

I read the Waverley proclamation, accompanied by Bridgette Biddell (Deputy Lieutenant), Tom Horwood (CE), Cllr. Penny Rivers (Deputy Mayor), Cllr. Paul Follows (Leader) and Cllr. Peter Clark (Deputy Leader). The Mayoress and a number of other Councillors and signatories were in attendance. You can listen back to the proclamation here on YouTube: Reading of the Proclamation of Accession.

Godalming Proclamation The Mayoress and myself, were pleased to accompany the Town Mayor of Godalming who read of the Godalming Proclamation which was attended by around 4,000 ,people.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second - 8 September

It was with the greatest sadness that I learnt of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022.

We send our deepest condolences to the Royal family and wish them strength during this sad period. Her Majesty visited Waverley on several occasions, and she will no doubt be remembered fondly by all who met her.

I sent a letter of letter of condolence to The Royal Family on behalf of the borough of Waverley. Read more about this here on my blog: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.

Waverley Abbey Founders Day - 5 September

Myself and the Mayoress attended the triple celebration of the 23rd year since the founding of the Waverley Abbey Trust - the 300 Anniversary of founding in Germany of the Evangelical movement that gave birth to the 24-7 Prayer group and the launch of a joint venture by the Waverley Abbey Trust and the 24-7 Prayer Group.

The event was attended by over 200 people... After welcoming drinks there were speeches and prayers by the 2 Chief Executives, the Bishop of Guildford and the Mayor of Farnham. The Mayor & Mayoress of Waverley then planted a memorial tree before adjourning to sample the delicious Hog Roast.

Welcome Methodist Minister - 4 September

The Mayoress and I, attended the Service of Welcome for the Rev. Dr. Paul Glass as the new Superintendent Minister of the Wey Valley Methodist Circuit. It was an interesting and thought-provoking service at St Mary’s Church in Guildford which was attended by a number of other mayors and members of the Clergy.
