About the Mayor

The Mayor of Waverley for 2022/23 is Councillor John Ward

At its Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 17 May, Waverley Borough Council appointed Cllr John Ward, who was previously the Deputy Mayor, as the new Mayor of Waverley.

He will hold the post for one year, attending a wide variety of engagements, acting as an ambassador for the council, chairing council meetings as well as raising funds for his nominated charities which are chosen Creative Response and Jigsaw Trust.

Councillor John Ward said: “Children and adults with autism and other special needs, as well as their parents and carers, can feel quite isolated. Jigsaw is a local group which supports people in Cranleigh, and I am proud to be able to help them during my year as Mayor.

He added: “The barriers on the road to recovery for people with mental health and substance abuse issues are complex. Creative Response’s endeavour to face these barriers in innovative ways, through compassion and understanding of their complex needs is one I am passionate in supporting.”

“As well as raising funds for Jigsaw Trust and Creative Response, I hope my support will help to raise awareness of autism and the benefits of the Arts aiding in the recovery of people with mental health and substance abuse issues.”

He said: “I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for both of my nominated charities during my year as Mayor. I also plan to help other charities, good causes and appeals, as I want to do as much as I can to help support the people of Waverley.”

The Mayor has lived in Farnham since 1974 and has served on Waverley council for 14 years in the Farnham Residents group between 2007 - 2015 and returned in 2016 until present, in Farnham Shortheath and Boundstone ward.
