This week I visited Hydestile resident animals to spend some time with Graham, Lyn Cornic and a lot of injured wildlife....
My visit was the last leg of my #LabourOfLove #CharityChallenge - and one which I asked you all to decide what work I was going to be doing there.
As you can see from the images above, I spent a lot of my time cleaning out the cages of hedgehogs, rabbits and other injured animals. There were also fox cubs, pigeons and even a mouse being cared for. The aim is always to safely return the majority of these rescued animals to the wildlife and back into their natural habitat.
There is something really wonderful about holding baby hedgehogs or frisky fox cubs. To be honest, I spent some time just talking about their many adventures...
I have a huge amount of respect for Hydestile and their dedicated staff and volunteers. As a former Police Officer in the area, I have been helped by them on many an occasion when an injured animal needed help - they would always be there at anytime of the day and also if you were anywhere nearby.
As time has gone by, little has changed at Hydestile, except for more and more animals being rescued, bigger cages being erected plus more professional medical machines being acquired - even an operating table.
Whilst I was visiting, the phone never stopped ringing with people asking for advice or bringing injured wildlife into the rescue centre.
This is a charity and because of the pandemic donations for Hydestile and my other two charities ( A Place To Be and Skillway ) haven't been as good as I perhaps hoped for. If you can donate I would be extremely grateful. You can give via my JustGiving page here. Thank you for your support in advance…
To finish off this post, I will leave you with some pictures of the fantastic team that works at Hydestile and of course some of the animals I had the pleasure to meet.
