Being Waverley Mayor 2021

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

Being born in Surrey and having lived here all my life, I am extremely fond of the county and its communities and have been fortunate to live and work in Guildford and Waverley since 1972.

Having been an Officer and staff member for Surrey Police, much of my working life has been spent within local towns and villages. I have seen and helped many victims of crime and road accidents plus supported people in times of need.

I am married to Councillor Jacquie Keen and we live in Haslemere. I have two daughters, Karen and Janet. Karen lives nearby in Loxwood but Janet lives in Knowsley, near Liverpool. Jacquie also has two children, Amanda and Luan who both live nearby in Haslemere.

After retirement, I decided to continue being involved within the community and was elected as a Councillor for Haslemere, Waverley and Surrey. In 2021, I have been fortunate to be elected Mayor of Waverley and intend to support our community, wherever it is needed.

Many people see Waverley as a rich and affluent area with very few problems. However, unfortunately there are many residents who struggle daily with debt, illness and isolation. There is also a need to preserve our wildlife and green spaces - understandably we need change...

I have therefore looked closely at my charities for this year. First and foremost I want to support our future with young people - so A place To Be, Youth Group in Haslemere and skillway both fulfill this criteria. My third charity is the Hydestile Wildlife Hospital which looks after and rescues many of our wild creatures involved in accidents or who become ill and in need of care. Over the years these three charities have been run by dedicated volunteers who have earned our respect and support.

To donate to my chosen charities this year you can give via my JustGiving page here. Thank you for any donation you can make…
